St. Helena Tasting Room
This tasting room in downtown St. Helena posed a unique challenge: The building’s owners did not want to change the exterior or significantly alter the 1,500-square-foot interior. The client charged Paul Kelley Architecture with transforming the space into a central tasting bar with a private tasting room for club members, as well as an office. Kelley worked within the fixed parameters to create relaxed surroundings for enjoying good wine and conversation. Using white distressed oak and copper finishes under the soaring ceilings, he maximized the extensive natural light, creating a bright and airy gathering place. Gliding metal and wood track doors that mimic the stable doors found on the owner’s private vineyard estate were employed to surround the office and further highlight the client’s love of wine and horses.
