Dutch Colonial Revival
The owner of this historic property grew up in the home and returned to live here with his wife when he retired from the military. He asked Paul Kelley to create a primary-bedroom addition, but Paul was able to design a new ground-floor bedroom by utilizing the existing den and a portion of the service porch, so as not to disturb the historical aspects of the residence. During planning, Paul discovered that the house sat on hollow concrete block — a major seismic hazard. He installed a new concrete liner on the basement walls, making the retrofit the key to the project while creating the bedroom suite, as well as enlarging and reconfiguring an upstairs bathroom.
